4 NEW CONSTRUCTION TECHNIQUES USED IN CIVIL ENGINEERING
Nowadays new construction techniques are introduced in the civil engineering field. Smart Buildings, Zero-energy Buildings, Volumetric Building module, Buildings with carbon dioxide are some trending methods used, which are more reliable and sustainable.
Nowadays infrastructure is reaching new heights by the Innovative ideas being used in construction. For increasing the comfort of well being of the user's sustainability new technologies are introduced. Here I have listed four among them, which are now trending in the civil engineering field.
SMART BUILDING:-
Smart construction is also known as intelligent building. This is an advanced technology used in which the core system is linked by using sensors, actuators, microchips, etc.
These smart construction building materials are also called intelligent material, active material, or adoptive material. These are centralised by Building Automation System (BAS)
They consist of primary and secondary bus which are connected by a level controllers.
These materials automatically controls the building operations including heating, ventilation, air condition, lighting, security, etc.
Almost all multistorey green buildings are designed to occupy these smart materials.
Controllers, Occupancy,Air handlers are used to control these Operations. Temperature sensors are used to control lighting.
These are quick to design, easy to transport and relocate and Corrosion resistance.
ZERO ENERGY BUILDINGS:-
Zero energy building is also known as zero net energy consumption. In this building the amount of energy used by it is equal to the renewable energy created onsite.
These buildings are more practical because it reduces the cost of alternative energy resources. These are more sustainable and uses electrical grid for energy storage.
Development of modern zero energy buildings becomes possible through the progress of the new construction technologies and techniques. These buildings save 70-50% more energy than a typical building. Also they use onsite renewable energy systems.
Zero energy buildings are more comfortable, reliable, affordable and sustainable. Also they contribute less overall green house gases
VOLUMETRIC BUILDING MODULE:-
Volumetric Building Module is also called modular construction. Modular construction is an alternative scheme that breaks down any building into transportable prefinished units, which are then transported to the site. These are now used widely because they are more efficient than typical buildings.
These are developed in offsite. These consist of multiple sections called modules. They have good quality finishing.
Modular construction takes 40% less time than a traditional building. They have factory controlled environment. They reduces health and safety risks. Modular construction has less environmental waste and less noise nuisance.
BUILDING WITH CARBON DIOXIDE
Concrete is highest produced building material used in construction. The energy intensive process of making concrete releases massive amount of carbon dioxide
This carbon dioxide is responsible for 7 percentage of global warming and reasons for climatic change.
Cement has huge carbon footprint. During the hydration process about one pound of carbon dioxide emission takes place from one pound of cement.
Overcome this problem, an innovative system called carbon cure is used. This injects carbon dioxide into the concrete as it being mixed. When the concrete hardens these Carbon dioxide traps inside the concrete and thus enables good compressive strength. This amount of cement used in the concrete can be reduced. Lesser the amount of cement lesser the emission takes place. This technology is used in US and Cannada .
Thus the new construction techniques emerging in construction leads to the growth of civil engineering.
